Miko Peled's CV

Miko Peled became a TFF Associate in March 2015

Miko Peled is an Israeli writer and activist living in the US. He was born and raised in Jerusalem.  Driven by a personal family tragedy to explore Palestine, its people and their narrative he has written a book about his journey called “The General’s Son, Journey of an Israeli in Palestine.”

In the forward to the book, Pulitzer prize winner Alice Walker writes:

“There are few books on the Palestine/Israel issue that seem as hopeful to me as this one…There is a short video featuring Peled on Youtube that is well worth viewing. The video can be found on his blog“

Jim Miles of Foreign Policy Journal writes in his review:

“There are many powerful books written on the topic of Palestine/Israel but few if any are as masterfully written as Miko Peled’s “The General’s Son.””

The book covers the work in which Peled’s family has been involved since his grandparents immigrated to Palestine in the early 20th century, describing their work and their life in detail. Peled’s maternal grandfather was a signer on the Israeli Declaration of Independence; his father was a General in the Israeli army; in the 1970’s his father pioneered the Israeli Palestinian dialogue and eventually met with Yasser Arafat.

In 1997 his sister Nurit lost her daughter in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem.

Peled is a contributor to several online publications that deal with the Middle East and he authors a blog dedicated to tearing down the separation wall, and advocating the creation of one democratic state with equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians. He travels regularly to Palestine/Israel where he speaks and works with the popular resistance. Miko has been arrested several times by the Israeli authorities for his activities. 

He has visited  and spoke in Gaza (via tunnel), East Jerusalem and Amman, Jordan. He speaks around the US, Europe and has been to Malaysia, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Educated in Israel, Japan and the United States, Miko is an accomplished professional martial artist. He holds a sixth degree black belt in karate. For 23 years Peled ran a martial arts school that was dedicated to teaching leadership skills and non-violent conflict resolution through martial arts. He also taught classes to Palestinian children in the West Bank.

Peled has recently sold his school and is now dedicating his time to writing, speaking and activism focused on transforming the racist Zionist regime in Palestine into a democracy with equal rights for all Palestinians and Israelis.

Greenland & Nuuk 2005
Greenland – the world’s largest island, a continent of its own with only 57.000 inhabitants. I visited it for the first time in May 2005. I flew across the inland ice to Nuuk, the tiny capital with some 14.000 inhabitants. I was overwhelmed by the pride and kindness of everyone I met as well as by the unique natural beauty. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions during my ten-day stay I could get nowhere else but Nuuk. Fortunately, however, among those I met was Gitte Arvegaard, a Danish lawyer and negotiator employed by the local government, Greenland Home Rule. She turned out to be an enthusiastic photographer with a lot of pictures taken during various trips around Greenland. So this Greeland series is the result of our cooperative effort.  Jan Oberg’s storyof how he met Sir Paul Liverpool – where else to meet Paul McCartney? Paul’s old class mate and TFF Associate, Jonathan Power introduced me to Paul McCartney in Liverpool at an informal reception. It was held at what used to be their school, now the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and we were there to celebrate that Jonathan had written Amnesty International’s 40th Anniversary book. This happy event for “righting wrongs and writing songs” gave me an opportunity to meet Paul and tell him about TFF and get straight to the matter: would he consider making a donation in support of our work for peace? While I was probably the only one with such a wish that day, I was certainly not the only one who wanted to shake hands and talk with him.
