Born February 2, 1943 i Malmoe Sweden. Former Green member of the European Parliament. Studied Theoretical Philosophy, Russian, Arabic and sociology at Lund University. PhD in Sociology 1983 (Thesis: The Swedish Parliament from Within). President Liberal Youth 1969-71, MP (Liberal) 1976-79, cofounder of the Green Party 1981, MP (Green) 1988-91, 1994, MEP (Green) 1995-2002, full member of the EP Committe for Foreign Affairs, security and defence, alternate member of the committe for Industry etc, Chairperson of EP Delegation for Cooperation with PR of China, Rapporteur on European Civilian Peace Corps.
Author of some 30 books on social affairs, international relations, Green politics, the EU, Palestine etc.
After having left the European Parliament, Gahrton is now publishing the online green think tank homepage Cogito and he is chair of the Swedish Palestine Groups (Palestinagrupperna, PGS).
Per Gahrton became TFF Associate in 1999.
